More rains predicted in TN, Pondy
Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) Heavy to very heavy rains have been predicted over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours due to a trough of low pressure over Bay of Bengal.
Met officials today said the low pressure over Bay of Bengal may develop into a depression, resulting in heavy to very heavy rains at many places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours.
Fishermen were warned not to venture into sea.
''Strong onshore winds from north-easterly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph were likely off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts,'' the officials said.
Meanwhile, the delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvaur and Nagapattinam, besides Cuddalore were badly hit due to heavy rains, which continued unabated for the two days.
Local authorities had declared a holiday for all educational institutions today in view of the heavy downpour.
Chennai Nungambakkam recorded five cm rain during the last 24 hours.
Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district recorded a maximum rainfall of 12 cm in the last 24 hours ended at 0800 hrs today, followed by Mayiladuthurai and Annaikanchathiram 11 cm each, Annamalai Nagar ten cm and Parangipettai nine cm.
