Mizoram Power dept launches online bill payment

Aizawl, Dec 18 (UNI) For the first time in the Northeastern region, Mizoram Power and Electricity secretary K Lalnghinglova today launched an online bill system in the state.

State Power and Electricity department officials said a person must have a bank account either at the State Bank of India or AXIS bank and internet facilities to be able to pay the electricity bills online.

''With the development in technology, online shopping and online bill payment have become an integral part of the lifestyle in the developed countries. It is an important milestone in the IT sector of Mizoram,'' Mr Lalnghinglova said after inaugurating the system.

However, online bill payment would require an extra payment of Rs nine as service charge from the department and the banks, the officials added.
