Lucknow, Dec 18 (UNI) Without announcing major sops for the state Provincial Civil Services (PCS) officials, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today warned them to mend their ways, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.

'' I have received several complaints from the peoples' representative about the indifferent attitude of some officials.

They should change themselves or action would be taken against them,'' the CM said addressing the inaugural session of the two- day annual PCS Association conference here.

Though the Chief Minister announced some minor benefits for the field officials doing judicial work, in most part of her speech she maintained that the officials, who hold the image of the government, should work for 'Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya' (welfare and benefit of all).

''The working of the PCS officials in the state is not satisfactory and there is a need for improvement in their work style,'' Mayawati reiterated.

''You will have to work for the people and particulary for the poor to give them justice,'' she suggested the officials, adding her government had already given free hand to the officials to deal with any situation.

Ms Mayawati also warned the officials that any ignorance on the part of the peoples' representatives and other lapses, earning bad name for her government, would automatically lead to severe punishment of the official concerned in the future.

Commenting on the demands of the PCS officials of time-bound promotions and other benefits, the CM said her government was committed to uplift the status of these officials, but due to some hitches by the court, their promotion was pending.

'' We are still waiting for the Centre's approval for promoting the PSC officials to the IAS cadre, while promotion made by the previous government is entangled in a court case,'' she said.

However, the CM claimed that UP was the first state in the country to send 40 PSC officials on a foreign training course and announced that from next year their number would be doubled.

She also said the PCS officials engaged in judicial work in their field duties would get medical allowances, guest entertainment and some other allowances. She also narrated in detail about the other benefits given by her government in the past seven-months regime.
