Amalapuram, Dec 18 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government is contemplating to bring in a legislation soon to safeguard the interests of workers in the unorganised sector, East Godavari district assistant commissioner of labour G Nageswara Rao said here today.

Speaking at a programme on 'welfare and self-employment opportunities for youth', he said the state government has set up a welfare fund for workers in this sector by collecting one per cent cess on constructions in public and private sector.

This cess was being spent for insurance and medical expenses of the workers, he added.

Mr Rao said children of the workers in this sector were being awarded scholarships at various levels and added the government had fixed a minimum age for workers. Anyone being paid less than this could file a claim in the labour office either individually or through their union, he added.
