Lawyer shot dead in Rohtak; ASI, Husband of a Sarpanch booked

Rohtak, Dec 18 (UNI) A lawyer was shot dead near his house in the Kishanpura locality here by car-borne assailants today.

In protest, the lawyers resorted to ''work suspend'' here and threatened to continue their agitation till the arrest of all the accused in the case.

The deceased was identified as Bijender Singh, who hails from Jagsi village in Sonepat district.

The local police has booked five persons, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Haryana police and the husband of Baliana village panchayat sarpanch. All the accused were abscoding.

According to information, five persons arrived in a car at the house of advocate Bijender Singh this morning and took him with them in their car on the pretext of discussing some matter in connection with a case in which the lawyer was representing the opposite party.

Later, Bijender Singh was shot dead by the occupants of the car who fled after throwning the body at a short distance from his house.

The deceased's wife informed the police.

Rohtak Superintendent of police (SP) Hanif Qureshi, two DSPs and the police station house officer (SHO) concerned rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the killers.

A case of murder was registered against five persons on the complaint of the wife of the deceased against Rajesh, Husband of the Baliana village sarpanch, ASI Umed Singh, Darsha, Resident of Baliana and their two accomplices who were yet to be identified.

As the news of the lawyer's murder reached the local courts, lawyers resorted to ''Work Suspend'' demanding immediate arrest of all the accused in the case.
