Khanduri inaugurates research institute for cow urine, cowdung

Dehradun, Dec 18 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri today laid the foundation stone of 'Gau Vigyan Evam Proudhyogiki Anusandhan Sansthan', first of its kind in the country, at Pashulok in Rishikesh.

Mr Khanduri said that budget of Rs 20 crore has been allocated for the Institute and would be further increased if needed. ''It will be the endeavour of the state government to establish the research institute at the earliest,'' he stressed. He apprised the gathering that cow's urine and cowdung would be used in the production of medicines and pesticides for which the institute would take up research works.

''The Cow urine would be exempted from the tax,'' he assured and hoped that the new industry would generate employment opportunity for locals, and cow breeders would benefit out of it.

The Chief Minister asserted that Uttarakhand was the first state to table Cow- Protection Bill in the state Assembly, which would be implemented very soon. He said that the research institute would further enhance the concept of cow protection in the state.

Dr R S Chauhan, Deputy Director of Indian Animal Research Institute, Bareily, the collaborating organisation, said that through Cow urine, treatment of several chronic diseases was possible. He said, ''During my research I discovered that urine and dung of cows found in the hill areas were effective to fight the dreaded diseases like Cancer, Tubeculosis and several others''.
