Karnataka Governor urges Centre to include more Districts under NFSM

Bangalore, Dec 18 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today urged the Centre to include five more rice growing Districts of Mysore, Mandya, Davanagere, Koppal and Bellary in the State under National Food Security Mission (NFSM).

Mr Thakur made a presentation on Agriculture development and issues involved in the state when Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar called on him at Raj Bhavan here.

The Governor also urged the Centre to bring the entire state under National Horticulture Mission (NHM) by including the districts of Gadag, Haveri, Davanagere, Raichur, Bangalore and Mandya. " The state had a great potential in Horticulture and requested to provide funding under NHM particularly to enable setting up of four modern wholesale markets and for management of 'Kole Roga' on areca nut.

Mr Pawar had expressed his happiness with the progress of kharif and rabi this season.

As far as Prime Minister's package for suicide prone-districts was concerned, Mr Pawar said that the demand of the state would be taken up in the Union cabinet, according to a release from the Governor's Secretariat.

He also took note of the suggestions given by the Governor to help the sugar industry to come out of the crises.

Mr Pawar also assured that his ministry would be ready for Market intervention to help stabilise the prices of perishable goods whenever the state government felt it necessary.
