Hospitality industry holds high job potential : Soni

New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Tourism Minister Ambika Soni today said about 200,000 trained people would be required in the Hospitality industry in the next three years.

"With the ongoing tourism boom in the country, sufficient trained manpower is required to meet the growing demands in hotel and travel related agencies," she said during her interaction with a group of students of Tourism and Hospitality Management from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Andhra Pradesh.

Ms Soni said tourism had become a high profile sector with 400 million domestic tourists and about 5 million foreign tourists in the country.

Calling upon the students to utilise the potential of employment generation in the tourism sector, she said they should not look for government jobs only but also create opportunities for themselves to become entrepreneurs.

In this context, she cited the schemes to provide financial subsidies and incentives in the tourism sector.

"If someone is talented, there is no dearth of opportunities for him/her in the tourism sector." Lauding the Andhra Pradesh Government for creating world class infrastructure in the state, the Minister said such initiatives would bring more business to the state and the youth could look forward to employment opportunities in the changed scenario of development.
