Panaji, Dec 18 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said he would examine the recommendations by next month, confirming receipt of report from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The ICAO had favoured setting up an international airport at Mopa in north Goa with the existing airport at Dabolim in south Goa getting saturated by 2013 despite expansion and modernisation.

Two years ago, the government had sought the ICAO to study the need for a second airport in Goa at Mopa on which opinion had been divided among the politicians.

While one section demanded expansion of the existing airport at Dabolim, the another opposed the proposed one at Mopa, saying it would benefit the neighbouring Maharashtra at the cost of the hospitality industry located in south Goa.

The Centre had constituted an empowered committee headed by the then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane to look into the feasibility of the Mopa airport. It sought the report of the ICAO on the issue.
