New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) The Delhi Cabinet today enhanced compensation for acquisition of agricultural land by three times, revising the rates from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 75 lakh per acre for normal agricultural land and from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 25 lakh per acre for riverbed land.

The Cabinet also cleared a draft for the Delhi Registration of Marriages Bill, gave its assent to the modified project of Wazirabad Bridge and granted relief to those small-scale industrial owners who could not repay their loan granted under special component plan scheme.

The decisions were taken in a Cabinet meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Addressing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Mrs Dikshit said the farmers whose land would be acquired by the government will receive three-time compensation. As per new rates for normal agricultural land, Rs 53 lakh per acre would be released and Rs 15.9 lakh would be paid as solatium and an additional amount of Rs 6.36 lakh would also be released. For riverbed land, an amount of Rs 17.6 lakh per acre would be released as compensation and Rs 5.28 lakh as solatium and an amount of Rs 2.11 lakh as an additional amount. The decision was taken keeping in view the present trend of land prices and inflation during the last few years.

The Cabinet ratified the recommendations of a Committee, constituted in September and headed by the Delhi Finance Minister.
