CPM(M) urges Governor not to permit Datta Jayanthi

Bangalore, Dec 18 (UNI) CPI(M) today urged Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur not to permit Datta Jayanthi and Shobha Yatre at Bababudanagiri in Chikamagalur by the Sangh Parivar.

In a release here, CPI(M) General Secretary G C Byarareddy alleged that there was no practice of holding Datta Jayanthi and Shobha Yatre prior to 1975 and it was floated by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Sangh Parivar to create communal tension.

"The Government should limit holding of pooja and homa to pre-1975 level as directed by Supreme Court and State High Court", he added.

He said both the Governor and District administration should uphold communal hormony not give permission for any such activities which provokes communal tension.

Mr Byrareddy alleged that BJP, which had lost power, was indulging in creating communal tension keeping eye on elections and the Governor should not give room for such activities and ensure communal harmony.
