Bamboo plantation proposal sent to Centre by Punjab

Chandigarh, Dec 18 (UNI) The Punjab Government has sent a Rs 74.90 crore proposal to the Centre for bamboo plantation of plants on at a large scale in the border state to improve its forest cover.

This information was given by Forest Minister Tikshan Sud during question hour by Ajit Singh Shant, who wished to know whether the government had started a special drive for plantation of saplings in the state.

The minister said a proposal in the form of Mission Document for bamboo plantation in a 20,000 hectare area, along with other activities, at a total cost of Rs 74.90 crore had been approved by the state level Bamboo Steering Committee under National Bamboo Mission, which had been submitted to the Centre.
