18-year-old boy run over by dumper in Malegaon

Nashik, Dec 18: In a freak accident, an 18-year-old boy was crushed to death by a dumper of a private company in Malegaon today.

The accident occurred when a dumper of Soma Builders Pvt Ltd was taking a reverse turn and it ran over the boy at Saundane area of the city this evening at around 1730 hrs.

The boy, identified as Amol Santosh Bachhav, was a student of the Agriculture school here. He was a resident of Sonaj Takli village in Malegaon, police said.

Following the incident, an irate mob of 400-500 citizens staged a 'rasta roko' agitation at the place of the mishap, halting the vehicular traffic on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway for nearly 2 to 3 hours. The angry mob also pelted stones at two vehicles of the company, damaging them. Senior police officials immediately rushed to the spot to resolve the situation. The traffic stand-off was cleared at around 2100 hrs after the protestors called off the agitation, police added.

Meanwhile, police have taken the dumper driver into their custody.
