Sanamahi followers demand ST status

The
followers
of
the
Sanamahi
or
Meitei
religion
in
Manipur
today
demanded
ST
status
for
the
community.
The Laiyingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup, an organisation of the Meithei community, said here that a decision to raise the demand for according the community Scheduled Tribe status was taken at a meeting here yesterday.
The followers of the Meitei cult inhabit Manipur, Assam and Bangladesh in large numbers.
The meeting also decided to urge President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan singh to consider their demand favourably.
