Karunanidhi exhorts youth to campaign for SSCP

Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Dec 17: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Patriarch M Karunanidhi exhorted the youth to launch campaigns in every village in support of Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP).

Addressing the DMK Youth Wing conference here last night, Mr Karunanidhi alleged that ''the communal forces, led by the BJP, were trying to set obstacles for the project by stirring religious sentiments.'' ''To clear doubts, the youth should visit each village and explain to them the salient features of the project with scientific proof,'' he said.

He appealed to the people not to be carried away by the false propaganda of the communal forces.

Mr Karunanidhi said the DMK had faith in his son and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin and it was because of this he was given the charge of the Youth Wing.

Stating that Mr Stalin would soon play a larger role in the government, he said he was aware of the expectations of the public in this regard.

''Your expectations will be fulfilled and an announcement will be made soon,'' Mr Karunanidhi said amid cheer from the party workers.
