HC directs CBI to file report on Rizwanur's death by Jan 7

Kolkata, Dec 17 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today granted the CBI time till January 7 to submit the report on computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman's death.

Justice Soumitra Pal extended the time after the CBI sought more time to complete the investigation into death earlier this year.

Counsel of the petitioner Kalyan Bannerjee said, ''The court directed the CBI to file the report on January seven when the case would again come up for hearing.'' Mr Banerjee opposed industrialist Ashok Todi's plea seeking more time to submit an affidavit before the court.

Earlier, the court had directed the CBI to probe into Rizwanur's death and file the report within two months.

The last date for filing the report expired today.

The CBI was asked to investigate the matter after Rizwanur's mother Kishwar Jahan moved a petition before the court praying for an inquiry by the central investigating agency into the unnatural death of her younger son.

Rizwanur Rehman was found dead beside the railway tracks in Patipukur in northern part of the city on September 21.
