New Delhi, Dec 17 (UNI) CBI has arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a student of Aligarh Muslim University.
With the arrest last Friday of two persons, Mohd Asif and Zafar Masood, the CBI has succeeded in cracking the murder, on April 20, of Kausar Salik Mazhar outside the department of Chemical Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University, a CBI spokesperson said.
Mohd Asif and Zafar Masood, both of Aligarh, had admitted to their involvement in the murder of Kausar.
The case was initially registered by the Police Station Civil Lines, Aligarh on April 25 against unknown assailants, who had fired on Mazhar outside the department of Chemical Engineering.
The incident led to large scale protests and paralysed functioning of the University for several days.
The case was referred to the CBI by the Uttar Pradesh Government and CBI took up investigation of the case on May 6.
The case was a blind murder, which required sustained investigation. A team of CBI officers camped in Aligarh from time to time to unearth the conspiracy behind the murder.
