NCW urged to take action to stop exploitation of N-E tribal women
New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The North East Support Centre and Helpline has urged National Comission for Women Chairperson Girija Vyas to take action against all those who exploit tribal women who hail from north-eastern states and engage them as domestic helps or in other menial jobs.
Mr Madhu Chandra, spokesperson for the organisation, said a girl, who hails from Manipur, was assaulted by her landlord in Gurgaon (Haryana) but there is no one to redress her problems. Police have not taken any action against the landlord. The condition of tribal women who come to the capital is very grim. They are engaged as domestic helps in the NCR area (Noida, Gurgaon) and other nearby places, he added.
Mr Chandra said the matter deserves the concern of the comission which should conduct a survey of tribal women working in the Haryana area of the NCR and devise ways to ensure their safety and security.
