Five injured in political clashes in Kerala

Kannur, Dec 16: Five persons, including a woman, were injured in political clashes between the RSS and the CPI(M) activists at Madapeedika in this district of Kerala, last night, police sources said.

They said CPI(M) cadres had allegedly hurled country bombs on the house of a BJP worker, Ramadas (55), injuring him, his wife Usaha and their son Shijil and damaging the door of his house. The miscreants had also set on fire a motorcycle parked in the house.

The injured were admitted to the Medical College Hospital at Kozhikode.

In retaliation, BJP and RSS activists allegedly attacked the house of Thalassery Municipality Councillor P Rajesh at Kommalvayal and hurled bombs, damaging the house. Rajesh and his brother sustained stab injuries in the attack and were hospitalised, police said.

A heavy posse of police personnel had been deployed in the area and the situation was now under control, they added.
