Changes in tax regime has not hit Pondy: CM

Puducherry, Dec 16 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said the Union Territory has remained unaffected by the implementation of Uniform Floor Rate for Sales Tax and Value Added Tax.

Inaugurating the 'Puducherry Electrical Traders Association' here, Mr Rangasamy said they were implemented after ensuring business and revenue would bew unaffected.

At present, 70 per cent of the Budget receipts came from local resources and the balance from Central Grants.

The administration wanted to become totally self-reliant for which traders should volunteer to pay taxes, Mr Rangasamy said.

According to Revenue authorities, Puducherry could earn Rs ten crore additional revenue by filling up posts in the Commercial Tax Department and collecting taxes properly.

The administration had identified 30 acre at Manappet to set up amusement parks and other facilities to develop tourism, the Chief Minister said.
