Hamirpur, Dec 16 (UNI) Former deputy prime minister L K Advani today accused the UPA Government at the Centre of failing to contain terrorist activities in the country and said its vote banks polities will cost the country dearly.

Addressing a public meeting at Nadaun town in Hamirpur district, he said while the terrorists were moving freely and carrying out their activities at will, the central government was in a deep slumber.

Referring to the UPA Government's failure to hang Afzal Guru, main accused in the Parliament attack case, he said Congress vote bank politics to appease the minorities would cost the country dearly.

''While parents of those jawans who laid their lives in the 2001 Parliament attack are demanding death to Guru and others, the UPA Government is devising ways and means to save him from the gallows.'' He said time had now come to strike by voting in favour of the BJP and oust the Congress from power,'' he said.

Launching a blistering attack on the Congress for failing to rein in the prices of essential commodities, Mr Advani said the price rise has broken the backbone of the poor and middle class families.

He claimed that, during the tenure of the NDA Government, prices of essential commodities were not allowed to rise despite several constraints.

The BJP leader called upon the people to vote for the BJP for development, progress and a clean and a transparent government that would live up to the expectations of the people of the country.

The presence of large number of women in the meetings egged him to say that time had now come when women should take a lead in reshaping the political set up of the nation.

''But for this, women will have to take active part in elections and cast their votes before doing any other household chores,'' he added.
