Udupi, Dec 15 (UNI) BJP leader B S Yadyurappa today warned that if the UPA government failed to accord classical status to Kannada language, his party and the people of the state will launch an agitation.

Addressing the presspersons on the sideline of the valedictory of 74th All India Kannada Literary conference here he alleged that the union government had shown gross negligence on projects pertaining to Karnataka, including irrigation and classical status to Kannada language and other demands.

He admitted that lack of commitment on the part of the politicians and the government was one of the reason for not implementing several pro-Kannada projects and achieving classical status to Kannada.

He also felt that during such mega event like All India Kannada Literary Conference, the government should been represented by some senior officials to attend and report the proceedings to the government which showed the laxity on the part of the government on the welfare of Kannada.

Replying a query, he said that the proposal by the Governor on establishing a Hindi academy was a different issue. It is nothing to do with the Kannada promotion activities, he said.

He said that he would make his sincere attempts to fulfill the demands of the Sammelan as he done during his 20 month tenure as the deputy chief minister during JD(S)-BJP rule.
