Urban Health Mission on anvil: Union Minister

Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 15 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi today said the UPA Government at the Centre will launch National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) similar to National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), to help urbanites.

Inaugurating the Bharat Nirman public information campaign here, she said the government was inspired by the successful conduct of the NRHM for the benefit of rural poor.

Ms Lakshmi said over five lakh functionaries were appointed under 'Asha' programme to enlighten the rural poor on health issues. The scheme was aimed at raising awareness among rural women to approach hospitals for child birth and maternity care.
