Three-member committee to look into BESU incident

Howrah, Dec 15 (UNI) The Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) authorities today instituted a three-member committee to inquire into the recent clash between two rival student groups.

BESU Vice-Chancellor Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee told newsmen that the committee had been asked to submit the report within two months.

Mr Banerjee said the university would reopen on Monday only for administrative and research works, but academic classes would start from December 19.

Meanwhile, Prohibitory orders, promulgated following clash between two rival student wings, were withdrawn this evening.

Earlier, the university authorities ordered the students to vacate the hostels by yesterday evening and Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 Cr PC were clamped to maintain peace in the campus.

The university was recently accorded the status of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology.
