Spat between traders and police, several vehicles vandalised

Meerut, Dec 15 (UNI) Several vehicles were vandalised after a spat between traders and police snowballed and the former resorted to stone pelting in Civil Lines area here today.

The traders were protesting the arrest of their fellow trader by a sub-inspector. The duo had a road accident two days back, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Narayan said.

The sub-inspector opened fire in the air, following which the traders started pelting stones.

Meanwhile, some of the agitating traders have been arrested and police in strength deployed to maintain peace in the area.
