A police spokesman said Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) killed four people through local youths in Sopore following major offensive by security forces and police against militants in November and December during which top leaders of different outfits were eliminated.
Giving details about these killings, he said one Owais Rasool Shah and Abdul Majid were killed in the last week of November while Shahzad Ahmad Pala and Firdous Ahmad Reshi were assassinated in the first week of December after labelling them as informers.
These killings were executed on directions from HuM to create scare among the people about half a dozen villagers, including Shiva, Dangerpora and Dooru in Zainageer belt.
He said during the investigation police got vital clues and arrested four persons -- Altaf Hussain Lone, Abid Hussain Sheikh, Arif Hussain Sheikh and Mohammadd Amin Dar.
The accused confessed to their involvement in the killing of two persons on the directions from HuM outfit.
They said conspiracy to kill Pala and Firdous was hatched under the instruction of two Pakistani militants of HuM Usman and Ali Shera active in Sopore.
He said Pala, was killed by the Pakistani militant Usman and his local arrested associate Altaf Ahmad by slitting his throat in orchards at Dangerpora Sopore. Pala was the cousin of two of the arrested accused Arif Ahmad Sheikh and Aabid Ahmad Sheikh who were also involved in the killing.
He said investigation in two other cases was going on as some more clues have been received.
