New Umtru 2x20 Hydro project foundation stone laid

Shillong, Dec 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has said that the state has great potentials in power generation and it is time to explore them.

The Chief Minister said this, while laying the foundation stone of the New Umtru 2x20 MW Hydro electric Project at Dehal, Byrnihat, on December 12, delayed press statement said today.

He said that Power requirement in the state has become tremendous, especially when the state is on a modernisation mode requiring power in almost all aspects.

He said that the target of providing power supply to all villages is yet to be accomplished but with the implementat8on of such projects like new Umtry, the goal will soon be achieved.

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power Dr Mukul Sangma said the new power policy of the state is one of the best in the country and under the policy, power potentialities of all possible river basis in the state would be explored and harness the resources of power generation.

He appealed to the state government to extend financial support to the MeSEB so as to enable it to undertake the improvement of power sector especially in power generation aspect. He said the new Umtru Project when commissioned will enable the MeSEB to cater to the power needs of the people of the state.
