Jawan commit suicide, Deputy commandant CRPF injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 15 (UNI) A deputy commandant of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured while a jawan committed suicide in the Kashmir valley overnight, a police spokesman said.

He said a truck hit a CRPF vehicle near main gate of Kashmir university at Hazratbal today.

Dy commandant of 137 batallion was injured, he said, adding he was later admitted to a hospital.

He said a CRPF constable Rajesh Kumar of 158 batallion shot himself dead with his service weapon at Ganvan Kangan camp last night.

It was not immediately known why the jawan took this extreme step.

Trend of committing suicide among the security forces deployed in the Kashmir valley for counter-insurgency operations had not stopped even after introducing Yoga and Art of living to help them over come stress.

Official sources said family dispute and work stress were among the reasons for committing suicides by the security forces.

About a dozen others, including two Army officers, were killed by their colleagues in the valley during the past one year.
