New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Former Union Minister Vijay Goel today claimed that the Congress campaign had no impact on the masses in Gujarat as it had no issues except maligning Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking to UNI Mr Goel, who was part of BJP's campaign machinery in Gujarat, said UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi who was the star campaigner for the Congress, also got stuck in anti-Modi rut and that in fact enhanced the image of Mr Modi.

On the other hand, Mr Modi swayed the people by raking up Hindutva, Ram, terrorism and development with which the electorate of the state could relate to, he said.

The former Union Minister said the most significant factor in this election was that the youth turned out in large numbers in favour of Mr Modi which was earlier seen only in 1973 when Nav Nirman Andolan was launched in the state. ''This will ensure that Mr Modi will be able to get majority for the third time in the assembly,'' he claimed.

The turnout at the 620 public meetings, small and big, in all held during the BJP campaign, was reminiscent of the response seen in 1977 during the post emergency anti-Congress wave, he said. Mr Modi himself addressed 159 rallies in the 18-day campaign, he added.
