Shimla, Dec 15: The BJP has expelled seven leaders for campaigning in favour of rebel party candidate Roop Dass Kashyap who is contesting elections as an independent against official party candidate Tarsem Bharti from Kasumpati constituency of the state.

The expelled leaders included party district secretary Nirmala Chauhan, district executive members Ishwar Rohal and Dharam Singh Thakur, Kasumpati mandal vice president Durga Singh, mandal secretary Hem Chand Sharma and mandal executive member Pramod Thakur.

The fissures appeared within the party following its decision to field Mr. Bharti from this assembly segment in place of Mr.

Kashyap, who is popularly known as RD within the constituency.

Taking a strict view of their activities that were harming the interests of the party, state president Jai Ram Thakur announced their expulsion from the party.
