Badal exhorts media to maintain high standards

Ludhiana, Dec 15 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today exhorted the media to maintain high standards of constructive and impartial journalism for harmonious transformation of society, so that the fruits of development and advancement could reach the grassroot level.

Speaking after the launch of the Ludhiana Edition of Dainik Bhaskar Newspaper here, Mr Badal said in the present times, the media as a mass communicator was not only the most important of the four estates, but had even acquired the power of setting the political, social, economic, educational and cultural agenda of the country.

He said the fundamental objective of journalism was to serve people with news, views, comments and information on matters of public interest in a fair, accurate, unbiased, and sober manner.

Mr Badal added, his government was committed for the welfare of the media both print and electronic media acted as it act as a bridge of communication between the masses and the Government besides highlighting its policies and programmes.

Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State for Finance, speaking on the occasion said in the present fast changing scenario, the Indian language papers were of utmost importance.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Chattisgarh, Dr Raman Singh Chairman Zee Group Subhash Chander and National Secretary BJP and In-charge Punjab Affairs also Balbir Punj, extended felicitations to the Dainik Bhaskar Group for launching the Ludhiana edition.
