Army conducts Exercise Vajra Sahayata

Jalandhar, Dec 15 (UNI) The Indian Army conducted Exercise Vajra Sahayata, to practice mobilisation, deployment drills of Quick Reaction Medical Team (QRMT) and co-opted troops in the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical(NBC) disaster relief in aid to civil administration.

The two-day exercise, which was conducted by Jalandhar-based Vajra Corps at Haripur Ranges and Phagwara near here, got concluded today.

During the drill, it was depicted that a leak has occurred in a chemical factory for which the help of the Army was requisitioned by the civil administration.

Quick Reaction Team, Quick Reaction Medical Team of Army were mobilised and the troops comprising five officers, 20 junior commissioned officers and 200 jawans reached the site and cordoned off the area.

Then there was reconnaissance monitoring and surveillance by the Quick Reaction Team of the Army, followed by the deployment of the Quick Reaction Medical Team comprising of ambulances, stretchers, evacuation team, masks, oxygen cylinder and decontamination centre. After 1300 hrs, the reserve columns was activated to further stabilise the affected area.

It was also practiced as to how the civil medical set up, the disaster relief organisation, the NGOs and college students would render aid to reduce the time for evacuation of casualties.

For this mock exercise, the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala had earmarked beds in various hospitals and activated the various civil departments.
