150 fishermen detained in Kakinada port

Chennai, Dec 15 (UNI) As many as 150 fishermen, who had ventured into the sea on December 13 night in 25 boats from the Kasimedu area in North Chennai, were detained by the authorities at Kakinada port in Andhra Pradesh as they drifted in the high sea.

Police sources said officials from the Fisheries' Department rushed to the neighbouring state to secure the release.

The fishermen were caught in the gusty winds and rough sea, and had inadvertently drifted into the Kakinada port area.

They were detained by the port authorities.

As the families of fishermen complained that those who had entered the sea had not returned, the officials conducted inquiries and found that they were detained by the authorities in the Kakinada port.

Efforts were being made by the Fisheries' Department to secure the release and top officials had already left for Andhra Pradesh, the sources added.
