Spice telecom to spread its wings to new circles

Bangalore, Dec 13 (UNI) Spice Telecom, a major cellular operator in Punjab and Karnataka, today said it will start operations in at least a dozen new telecom circles in the country shortly.

Company CEO Navin Kaul told reporters on the sidelines of the launch function of the 'Spice Local Lingo SMS Service' here, the company had applied for expanding its service in 20 new circles and an official announcement was expected in a week's time.

''We will be getting the licence for new areas ranging from 12 to 20 circles. We have a 14-million subscriber base and will add 2.4 million more by December next year.

''We have launched the TV on phone service in Chandigarh today and a similar launch will happen in Karnataka in a month. Twelve channels including English and Hindi news channels, are being offered at a low package of Rs 150 per month.

''The subscribers could also chose one or more channels they prefer,'' he said.

Spice Karnataka COO Rakesh Singh said the coverage would be extended to 800 more towns in Karnataka in 2008.
