New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) will now be extended to uniformed Coast Guard pensioners and retired personnel of Defence Security Corps (DSC).

This was decided at a meeting of the Union Cabinet today.

The retired DSC personnel now covered under the Scheme are those who left the Army service pre-maturely without earning any pension, but joined DSC later and are in receipt of pension by virtue of their service in DSC.

''The decision will benefit the uniformed Coast Guard pensioners and retired Defence Service Corps personnel, who are in receipt of pension by virtue of their service in DSC in getting medical care after retirement, which is not available to them as of now,'' Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
