Artisans to get access to high-end markets

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) In a move that would help artisans get enhanced access to both domestic and international high-end markets, the government today okayed the Marketing Support and Services Scheme with a budget of Rs 316.81 crore.

Briefing reporters after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the scheme will ''enable artisans to achieve full time employment and get better returns on their products besides creating new opportunities for productive employment in rural areas.

The scheme will be implemented for a period of five years beginning 2007-08 up to 2011-12.
