Woman trampled to death by wild elephant

Baripada, Dec 11 (UNI) A wild tusker strayed from the Simlipal National Park today trampled an old woman to death, forest officials said.

The woman identified as Kshata Bindhani(55) was harvesting paddy crop at Kanialoka village under Kuliana block of Mayurbhanj district, about 35 kms from here, when the mishap took place.

The body of the woman was handed over to her son Minaketan Bindhani after post-mortem examination at the district headquarters government hospital here.

Official sources said steps were being taken to pay compensation to the tune of Rs 1 lakh to Minaketan for the death of her mother caused by the attack of the 12-feet wild elephant.
