Transporters threaten agitation over taxes
Jalandhar, Dec 12 (UNI) Transporters from Doaba and Majha regions of Punjab today threatened to handover ignition keys of trucks to Transport Minister and resort to agitation if state government did not take back hiked taxes.
This was stated by All Punjab Truck Operators Union president Happy Sandhu while addressing a dharna of the transporters and truck owners here today.
He said that due to wrong policies of the state government, the transport business in Punjab is on the verge of collapse.
''The truck operators are unable to collect money even for the annual token, then how will they be able to pay the extra taxes imposed on them,'' he questioned.
The state government in its new transport policy has hiked the taxes three times and started the provision of stickers, he said adding that the government also proposed to impose levy tax on the truckers.
