Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy claimed that the Narendra Modi - led BJP government would be voted back to power in Gujarat with an absoute majority.

Speaking at questions at a press conference here on the scenario in Gujarat in the wake of the charges of encounter death and the Election Commission's(EC) notice to Mr Modi, Dr Swamy said ''one should wait for the EC's 'verdict''.

Dr Swamy claimed that when an extremist takes on the police and acts against the country, he cannot take refuge under fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution. The law is very clear vis-a vis fundamental rights, he added.

Dr Swamy took on the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project(SSCP) and reiterated that the ''project was now doomed and alleged that the the union shipping Minister had been misleading the people by issuing statemets that the SSCP would be completed by November 2008.

He also claimed that the National Remote Sensing Agency of the ministry of Space under the Prime Minister and a report of Geological Survey of India (GSI) had categorically stated that Rama Sethu was constructed during the Ramayana period.

Hence it qualifies to be an ancient monument of national heritage and cannot be damaged in any way under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites And Remains Act, he argned.

''This means that the SSCP was not permissible under the law and was an illegal project,'' he added.
