Selection of candidates by lottery in govt jobs illegal: HC

Jaipur, Dec 12 (UNI) The Rajasthan High Court has ruled that qualification and merit alone count in getting priority for government jobs and ruled against the lottery system adopted by the Laxman Garh Panchayt Samiti in the appointment of an Anganwadi worker as illegal.

Justice A K Parihar of the Court ruled this while disposing of a petition filed by one Sarita Devi.

The samiti had invited applications for filling up the post of Anganwadi worker at Gram Banai village. After scrutinising the applications, two people were found eligible for the job. Manju had better accademic qualification than other aspirant Sarita Devi. The panchayat samiti decided to appoint Saritha devi on the basis of a draw.

This was challenged by Manju and later the district administration quashed the appointment of Sarita. Sarita had then challenged the decision in the High court.
