Polling for Khargone, Sanver bypolls in MP begins

Bhopal, Dec 12: Amid tight security, polling began for by-elections in Khargone Lok Sabha constituency and Sanver assemly constituency this morning.

A total of 12,091 electorate would exercise their franchise at 1,262 polling centres in Khargone, while about 1.75 lakh voters would cast their votes at 187 polling booths in Sanver. Polling would be held between 0700 hours and continue up to 1700 hours.

The bypolls results are expected to have an impact on strategies of main political parties including the BJP and the Congress for upcoming state assembly elections scheduled to take place next year.

In both constituencies, the main contest is between BJP and Congress, while presence of Bhartiya Janshakti candidate made it triangular. Eleven candidates each were in the fray.

Khargone seat fell vacant following disqualification of Mr Krishna Murari Moghe(BJP) on the office of profit issue, while state BJP minister Prakash Sonkar's death caused the bypoll in Sanver in Indore district.

Mr Moghe is again in the fray in Khargone, where MPCC chief Subhash Yadav's son Arun Yadav is Congress nominee along with Sanjay Jhanwar of BJ. 12.91 lakh electorate are scheduled to exercise their franchise in 1262 booths including 250 declared as sensitive.

In Sanver constituency, Tulsi Silawat(Cong), Santosh Malaviya(BJP) and Ranjit Sonkar (BJ) are prominent contestants.

Nearly 1.75 lakh electorate are listed to exercise their franchise in 187 booths.
