Husband committs suicide after killing wife

Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, a man bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer and later committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train at Washermanpet area in the city last night.

Police said the couple, both construction labourers, were married three years ago and had no issues.

Vinayagam (25) suspected the fidelity of his wife and both quarrelled frequently. Last night, a similar quarrel ensued and the man slapped his wife. After a couple of hours, Vinayagam in a fit of rage bludgeoned his wife's head, while she was asleep, with a hammer, killing her on the spot.

After covering her body and placing a garland on it, he left a note confessing to the crime, went out and jumped before a train at Korukkupet railway station.

The incident came to light this morning when the woman's co-worker came to the house to meet her.

Police later recovered the body of Vinayagam on the railway track.
