HC rejects bail plea of Chhota Shakeel's girlfriend

Mumbai, Dec 12 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today rejected the bail plea of Rubeena Sayed, the alleged girlfriend of ganster Chhota Shakeel, who was convicted by a designated court for having links with the underworld.

Justice A P Deshpande, while rejecting the bail plea, ordered to expedite the hearing of the appeal filed by her, challenging the lower court order.

Her bail plea was rejected following Mumbai Police strongly opposed it on the ground that her release on bail will be a threat to society and she may tamper with the evidences available against her.

Sayed, who is also popularly known as 'Chhota Shakeel ki moti' girlfriend, was convicted by Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court, to suffer a rigorous imprisonment of five years in March this year.

She has been lodged in judicial custody, and had already undergone a period of three and half years in jail.
