Eight more accused awarded punishment in fodder scam

Ranchi, Dec 12 (UNI) The designated CBI court here today awarded six years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 to seven people and three years' imprisonment to another in connection with the multi-crore fodder scam.

CBI Judge J K N Tiwari gave the verdict to the accused in connection with the Ranchi Treasury scam. Around Rs 27.33 crores were withdrawn during 1990-96 on the basis of forged documents.

The quantum of punishment of the remaining 32 accused would be delivered tomorrow.

There were around 80 accused in the case of whom 64 were convicted and seven acquitted for lack of evidence.

While three of them became government approver, four others died during the trial of the case.

One of the accused was discharged in the beginning while another pleaded guilty during the trial and later died.
