Woman commits suicide over dowry demands

Mumbai, Dec 11 (UNI) A 20-year-old woman committed suicide at Dharavi here by setting herself ablaze, allegedly fed up over dowry demands from her husband and in-laws.

The woman identified as Mayuri Babu Kanse was subjected to physical and mental torture by her husband Babu Adinath Kanse (25), mother-in-law Ratna Adinath Kanse (42) and father-in-law Adinath Kanse (55), according to police. All the three have been arrested.

The three had persistently demanded that Mayuri should bring Rs 50,000 from her parents so that they could purchase a new house, or her parents should provide them a house.

The woman set herself ablaze at her residence yesterday. She suffered 80 to 90 per cent burn injuries and later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Sion Hospital.
