Vice Prez hails Indian democracy, concerned at corruption
New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Vice President Hamid Ansari today said India had proved itself capable to preserve democracy but expressed concern on corruption in public life.
Speaking at a book release function here, he said with economic reforms, India had now begun to achieve notable improvements in economic growth that promise to upgrade the living standards of its citizens, strengthen its institutions and make it an increasingly prominent player on world stage.
The Vice President who released the book 'The State of Indian Democracy', at a function organised by the Centre for Policy Research' said India is becoming an even more important subject for scholars of comparative democracy.
The essays in the nineteenth Journal of Democracy book focus on India's economy, society and politics, providing insights into the past accomplishments and continuing challenges of Indian democracy.
