SPCC sets 10,000 as target for its youth membership drive

Gangtok, Dec 11 (UNI) The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) today launched a statewide youth membership drive under the leadership of state party president Nar Bahadur Bhandari.

The drive by the SPCC was being conducted as a part of the Indian Youth Congress membership drive, launched by party general secretary Rahul Gandhi earlier this year.

" We will do an intensified membership drive in all parts of the state and our target is to induct at least 10,000 youth members before the next Assembly election for bringing a Congress government in Sikkim, " Mr Bhandari told a press meet.

Claiming that around 22,000 educated unemployed youths were sitting idle in the state, Mr Bhandari said adding the Congress would stress on these youths as a part of its "son of soil" policy for the elections.

" We have formula to address the unemployment problem once we come in power in the next election. No party can stop the Congress from forming the government, " stated the party president.
