New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today filed reply to the Election Commission (EC) show cause notice issued to her for her 'Maut ka saudagar' (merchant of death) remark.

The EC sources admitted that they had received Ms Gandhi's reply but refrained from disclosing its contents.

Meanwhile, the Congress maintained its stand that Ms Gandhi did not name Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi but had the entire State administration in her mind when she made the speech.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) had been saying from the beginning that Ms Gandhi's speech never violated the Model Code of Conduct as she had only pointed to political failure of the Government. The party was also furious over Ms Gandhi being equated with the Gujarat CM in the alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and Deputy leader of the BJP in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra, who were also issued EC show cause notices along with Ms Gandhi, also filed their replies today, the sources added.
