Patiala, Dec 11 (UNI) Dr Jaspal Singh, who today assumed the charge as the new vice-chancellor of Punjabi university, said there would be no vendetta politics and his endeavour would be to provide conducive academic atmosphere on the Punjabi university campus to help promote academics.

Addressing his maiden press conference immediately after taking over charge of his new assignment, Dr Jaspal Singh said that his prime endeavour would be raising the standard of education in the university and its affiliated colleges.

A noted scholar of political science and former Indian envoy of Mozambique, Dr Singh said that he would not like any groupism among faculty members.

The new vice-chancellor said that he would initiate talks with members of the joint action committee which had been spearheading an agitation at the campus for many months. "Contentious issues would be resolved by negotiations," he said.

On the issue of neighbourhood campuses set up by his predecessor Swarn Singh Boparai, Dr Singh said that he would like the campuses to continue functioning, and added that already existing institutions would not be disturbed and would be allowed to function as they were doing earlier.
