MRD allocates Rs 12,422.99 lakhs for rural development

Shillong, Dec 11 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Rural Development has allocated Rs 12,422.99 lakh, with an expenditure of Rs 12,566.42 lakh, for rural development in Meghalaya, according to an official statement today.

The funds are meant for implementing certain Centrally sponsored schemes for poverty alleviation, employment generation, creation of infrastructure and providing basic amenities in the rural areas.

The schemes like SGSY and SGRY, implemented through the state governments, would provide self-employment, food security, improved nutrition and creation of durable community assets and infrastructure.

The NREGA also aims to provide 100 days of guaranteed employment in each household willing to take up manual work.

Schemes like IAY would provide shelter to the homeless. Rural development programmes such as PMGSY would take up rural connectivity, ARWSP and TSC would work for development of rural infrastructure and amenities.
